We incorporate strategies for improving speech, language, communication, social skills, problem solving, and more during naturally occurring opportunities throughout our daily planned activities.

What We Do

Self-advocacy:

· Choice-making- about activities and within activities

· Assertiveness- appropriate ways to refuse or state wants/needs

· Appropriate Relationships Interaction

· Building and maintaining friendships

· Opportunities for day-to-day planning activities

· Making informed choices- discussion of consequences (both positive & negative) regarding choices.

· Personal awareness and safety other assistance in increasing control over the individuals’ own life/environment.

We teach and encourage individuals to pursue their personal leisure time in an enjoyable and age-appropriate manner. Activities may include

· Developing relationships

Recreation/Leisure Skills

Community Integration Skills

Skills taught will prepare the individual to access a variety of community environments. Skills include:

· Safety awareness

· Restaurant etiquette,

· Shopping for personal items

· Money management including budgeting and purchasing,

· Use of community resources including police, fire and emergency services

Domestic Skills/Self-care Skills

· Self-care and personal hygiene

· Nutrition

· Meal planning and preparation (using easy, and safe methods, including: microwave, toaster oven, counter-top grill, crock-pot)

· Money management & budgeting

· Basic housekeeping

Vocational training

Individuals are encouraged to express their given preference for individual vocational pursuits. ADE provides pre-vocational training and support to assist individuals in developing job skills and work habits for possible future paid employment. Focus areas include listening skills and following directions in order for an individual to be successful in an integrated work setting.

· Personalize to meet the interest of individuals, as needed.

NOW partnering with Go Thrift! local thrift store to volunteer in their store to complete light cleaning and organization skills.
